Today was the first of two sea days from Bar Harbor to Quebec City. At breakfast the ship was passing Halifax, Nova Scotia. The outside temperature was about 19°C, under a blue sky. Walking on the track on Deck 11, there was a noticeable wind as the ship was travelling about 20 knots or 36 km per hour.
The first presentation of the morning was given by Shane, the Destinations Concierge, about the four Canadian ports that we will be visiting in the next seven days.
Later in the morning we attended Dominique Lavigueur’s Beyond the Podium presentation about Quebec City which was founded in 1608, near the site of the Frontenac Hotel, by Samuel de Champlain. He called it “Habitation de Quebec”. Over the centuries, the site has had four forts. We have tickets for a walking tour of Old Quebec City in two days. We will learn more of the history.
We had lunch in the dining room and sat with a group of friends who live in Maryland and Delaware. They drove to Bayonne to board the ship. They were Bill & Barbara, Art & Carol and Tom & Elaine.
After lunch we walked out in the sunshine on Deck 11, there were a few more clouds and the temperature felt cool at 20°C in a strong wind. The rest of the afternoon was spent reading until dinner. By dinner time the ship was turning north around Cape Breton. Steps 10274
We joined David and Audrey for dinner and were joined by Carol and Eldon, from last evening and a new couple Barbara and Steve from Washington, D.C.
The show this evening was another production with the Celebrity singers and dancers called “Chandelier” about a hotel chandelier that comes to life through contemporary music. After the show the ship was nearing the northeastern tip of Cape Breton entering the Cabot Strait between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
After browsing some itineraries for future cruises, we decided to consider a cruise in spring of 2020 of the Australian east coast and the South Pacific out of New Zealand.
