Today was the final Sea Day travelling from Halifax to Cape Liberty. Overnight the ship cruised from the southern tip of Nova Scotia to east of Cape Cod by sunrise. The temperature was about 15°C, but it was overcast and it looked foggy in the distance. The waves were about three meters high.
After breakfast, we walked up to the track on Deck 11 where the wind was very strong, making it difficult to walk in one direction and getting pushed by the wind in the other direction. After 15 minutes we retreated to the sheltered Deck 10 which is enclosed with windows but the center in is open over the pool. After an hour we had accumulated over 7,800 steps. We met Audrey & David and Carol & Al in the Oceanview Café for a game of Five Crowns before attending Dominique Lavigueur’s presentation. Her final talk was called “A Well Known Sailing Route” about the history of the route that the cruise followed, covering topics from exploration to fishing to whaling to smuggling alcohol in the 1920s.
The temperature had risen to 18°C by 1 p.m., and the clouds were parting to let the sun through but the wind was still strong.
We ate lunch in the dining room with a couple from near Windsor and a couple from Wisconsin. Lunch in the Oceanview Café was a Seafood theme and they featured chocolate desserts and a sous chef was walking through the café offering large chocolate dipped strawberries.
The comedian, Mike Wilson, performed a matinee show this afternoon. People who went said it was not as good as his evening performance. Passengers were at varying stages of packing for tomorrow’s departure during the day.
The sun was shining but clouds were gathering, the waves were reduced to about two meters. Tonight’s dinner was the last one in the dining room with Audrey & David and Carol & Al. Barbara and Steve joined the table. We exchanged farewells with our waiters, Soe and Mohan. The main course choices tonight were Chateaubriand and Pork Loin.
Entertainment in the Celebrity Theater was singer Jacqi Michaels with her theme “Simply the Best - A Tribute to Amazing Women in Music”.
When we returned to the stateroom the account statement, a printout for the gratuities and any purchases, for the cruise was there to check before final payment was charged to our credit card. We packed after dinner and attached the luggage tags so that we could have the luggage in the hallway by 10 p.m. for pickup and in the morning the luggage will be transferred to a warehouse to be picked up after we leave the ship, as part of the disembarking procedure which will include Customs & Border Control clearance. We are assigned to leave at 9:15 a.m. to take a chartered bus to Newark airport for our afternoon flight.
We met Audrey, David and Carol in the Oceanview Café for another game of Five Crowns after the 7 p.m. show was finished.
The total distance travelled on this voyage was 3,311 nautical miles. One nautical mile = 1.85 kilometers.
